Brief CV

I am a friendly hard-working individual and take real pride in my work, although can occasionally obsess over small details too much. I am more than capable of working to deadlines, having learnt a lot about managing my time in the last couple of years. From my range of portfolio areas you can see that I am not afraid to explore diverse areas of design and am quick to pick up new skills.

Skills

As is evident from my Portfolio I have experience in a number of different areas of design, some more so than others. Most of my design experience comes from self taught experimentation back when I saw it as more of a hobby than as a future career option.

Web

I have been making websites for a number of years but have really honed my skills in the last two years while at University. These have included: coding standards compliant sites with XHTML, CSS and good usability principles
More recently I have taught myself how to create Wordpress templates and how to use Wordpress as a CMS. I am currently part way through learning Javascript and PHP which will enable me to create more dynamic websites.

Graphics/ Image Editing.

I have been creating graphics and editing photos for as long as I have used a computer. Friends who have known me through school have probably all been "Photoshopped" at one time or another. I am a skilled user of Photoshop and Illustrator and continue to expand my knowledge of these applications.

Flash/ Director

Flash was something I first discovered in school, using it to create terrible splash movies for web pages. Now I am a little wiser and know when or when not to use flash on a website. I am currently learning ActionScript 3 at university and hope to be using it in upcoming projects.
Director has been used for a couple of University projects and will be used to produce a game in final year.

3D Graphics

I taught myself basic use of 3D Studio Max and can use it to create and animate fairly basic objects and create effects. This semester at university I am studying a module in 3D and hope to expand my knowledge in this area. As part of this I am aiming to learn basic use of the open source 3D authoring application, Blender.

Video/ Animation

Again video is a self-taught area that I have some skills in but could learn a lot more. I can use Adobe Premiere for editing and have some experience doing basic motion graphics and effects with Adobe After Effects. I have a basic grasp of stop-motion animation and can use video capture equipment.

Photography

Photography has been a hobby of mine for a number of years and I have a good knowledge of the principles of photography and different techniques. I can use digital SLR's as well as compacts and have experience with film cameras. However this is more of a hobby than something I wish to persue as a career.

Personal

I grew up in a village in Northern Ireland called Kells, near the shopping town of Ballymena. After Primary School, I attended Ballymena Academy Grammar school leaving in 2005,after completing my A-level. I embarked on a course in Technology and Design with the intention of becoming a product designer. Two years in, I realised I had made a mistake and changed my course to IMD where I had to start again in first year. (My decision-making skills are much better now!)

I am a Christian and am involved in my local Church where I am in charge of the multimedia team and am a member of the Youth Fellowship committee.

I have a lovely girlfriend called Louise who works as a primary school teacher. Finally I have two sisters, a dog and a cat.
